WESTERN ASIATIC ACHAEMENID CYLINDER SEAL WITH KING ON HORSEBACK

A hardstone cylinder seal with contest scene with Achaemenid king on horseback attacking a standing up lion with a spear, the symbol of evil, beneath the winged solar disc. 9.71 grams, 31mm (1 1/4").

Fine condition. Rare.
Provenance Property of a London gentleman; part of his family collection since the 1970s; supplied with a museum-quality impression.
